Why “Little Almond”?

In a “nutshell,” the amygdala is the almond-shaped structure of the brain that controls emotions. It gets it’s name from the Greek word “amygdale” which means “almond.” The amygdala plays a role in regulating emotions as well as in tying emotional meaning to our memories. reward processing, and decision-making. It’s small, but mighty!

Do you take insurance?

At this time, I do not bill any insurance companies directly. I can provide an invoice, or “superbill,” that verifies session dates and proof of payment if you would like to seek reimbursement through your insurance company.

Many insurance companies provide full or partial retroactive reimbursement for out-of-network services provided by a licensed mental health practitioner.

If you would like to utilize this option, I encourage you to call your insurance company ahead of time to verify coverage and details.

What questions do I need to ask my insurance provider about out-of-network services?

Some helpful questions that I recommend asking your insurance provider about out-of-network coverage are:

  • Does my health insurance plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • Do I have an out-of-network deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?

  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per the calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
